In an era of globalization, fostering cultural diversity and understanding is dominant in education. Reading habits play a crucial role in shaping individuals’ cultural perspectives, influencing their ability to engage with and appreciate different cultures. This study examines the relationship between reading habits and cultural diversity, focusing on how literary exposure enhances intercultural understanding and empathy. Employing a mixed-methods research approach, this study integrates quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including surveys, and content analysis, to explore the impact of diverse literary texts on students’ cultural competence. The research seeks to determine the extent to which reading habits contribute to students’ awareness of multicultural issues, their ability to empathize with individuals from different backgrounds, and their overall engagement with diverse cultural narratives. Findings suggest that exposure to literature from different cultural backgrounds significantly enriches students’ perceptions of global diversity. It enhances their ability to critically analyze cultural themes, open-mindedness, and encourages inclusive attitudes. in addition, the study highlights the role of educational institutions in promoting diverse reading materials and facilitating discussions that nurture cross-cultural understanding. By fostering a reading culture that embraces multiple perspectives, educational institutions can contribute to the development of culturally competent and socially responsible individuals. This study underscores the transformative power of literature in bridging cultural gaps and promoting mutual respect in an increasingly interconnected world.
