This research paper is a review-based paper that introduces the reality behind the empowerment of women in India. While on the one hand, social and economic progress is visible, on the other hand, psychological pressure on women is increasing. This research shows that, looking at the literacy, employment, and economic independence of women, it appears that the status of women in society has increased, but the anxiety and emotional turmoil of women behind this is not being seen. This research clearly shows that women’s empowerment is responsible for the changing roles of women, which, on one hand, include working outside the home and, on the other hand, under the same old culture, the responsibilities of the house are only of women. Earlier, there were only household responsibilities, but now the responsibility of fulfilling professional expectations outside has also fallen on their shoulders, the result of which is that women are feeling emotionally weak, trapped in their roles, guilty, and mentally tired. This study emphasizes that unless the social structure and patriarchal values are changed and family responsibilities are not divided properly, women’s empowerment has no meaning or benefit. Through this paper, it is being tried to be made clear that women’s empowerment should not be seen in terms of their achievements and responsibilities, but should be decided by looking at their mental freedom, self-respect, and emotional balance. The purpose of the paper is to focus on the hidden irony behind the empowerment of women.
