Youthfulness is often seen as emotional and self-transformative stage, in which beliefs and principles regarding gender equality, sexuality, and health shape behaviors during this time, significantly impacting future health, well-being, and socio-psychological development, when individuals look forward to initiating intimate relationships. Consent in intimate relationships means that the individuals involved in the relationship are willingly agreeing to engage in any activity, and it must be informed, freely given, reversible, enthusiastic and specific. This qualitative study delves into the nuanced perceptions of consent among young adults. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis of ten boys and girls, the present research unveils the intricate dynamics shaping young girls and boys’ perceptions within the context of interpersonal relationships, exploring factors such as peer influences, social norms and personal agency using semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal the complex interplay of power dynamics, communication skills, and societal expectations shaping young girls and boys’ attitude towards consent and boundaries. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of promoting healthy relationship dynamics and empowering young adults to assert their boundaries and rights.
