Literature has highlighted the profession still has a lot to achieve in the area of disability, especially in the Indian scenario. The article examines the theoretical underpinning, contemporary progressive legislation, enhanced role and future implications for social work practice in the area of disablement. The article implies integration of life span perspective and intersectoral approach in social work practice to achieve more efficient, effective and sustainable health outcomes in the area of disabilities.
