This paper deals with the onset of a new age of criminality; one of that needs computers for its perpetration. Computer Crimes as the Information Technology Act, 2000 defines it has become a new menace to society; hacking is the most popularized form of computer crime. In the course of this write-up the author looks at the drawn of hacking as a new form of crime and evaluates where the laws in force in India are equipped to handle its onslaught. It is not that the legislature is not capable to equip Indian laws to meet the needs of society but the constant need of the legislature to refer to archaic principles of criminal law engraved in the Indian Penal code to justify computer crimes as being criminal in nature has led to a serious devaluation of computer crimes by the legislature as being capable to raging serious chaos and disarray in all aspects of societal life especially business activities.
