The Cross Layer Design approach is a requirement of current scenario of ad Hoc network and WSN due to its infrastructure less and hostile nature. All the nodes in WSN cooperatively maintain the connectivity. Although layered architectures have served well for wired networks, but they are not suitable for wireless networks. Today wireless network is doing well with advantages like flexibility, mobility, cheaper and faster deployment, easier maintenance and upgrade procedures. So, Exploiting the dependencies and interactions between layers has been shown to increase performance of wireless networking. The concept is known as Cross Layer Design. Different Cross Layer proposals are discussed here to find an energy efficient protocol.
