A review on the relationship of materialism with well-being, self-esteem and among adolescents

Materialism is the importance an individual attach to the worldly possessions. in the modern era all age groups are keen towards spending more on materialistic goods in order to fit in their social circle. All age groups are found to show a certain amount of materialistic orientation. Well-being of the individuals who are high on materialism is greatly diminished as compared to individuals who are not materialistic. Also, people with lower self-esteem tend to be more materialistic. Adolescents are highly materialistic and are greatly inclined towards brand consciousness. The available studies are cited in this review paper in order to develop an understanding of how materialism is linked with well- being, self-esteem and its prevalence in adolescence.
