This paper aims to evaluate the efficacy of utilizing cooperatives as a technique for promoting local economic development (LED) in the Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality area. This article outlines the concepts of collaboration and progress in agricultural co-operatives in both developed and underdeveloped countries, with a specific focus on the Republic of South Africa. In August 2013, the Republic of South Africa introduced a new co-operatives statute, known as the co-operative’s amendment act, no.6 of 2013, which is based on worldwide principles of co-operation. The articles’ findings indicate that there are multiple issues that hinder the establishment of co-operatives as a strategy for local economic development (LED). These issues encompass the lack of financial support from the government, limited prospects in the markets, scarcity of specialized knowledge, and failure to establish monitoring and evaluation of cooperative ventures. The papers suggest that these variables hinder efforts to effectively address the widespread issues of poverty, unemployment, and inequality in society.
