This case history report explores a Psychological First Aid (PSFA) intervention for Bibin Shibu, a 22-year-old Engineering college student experiencing academic, personal, and emotional distress. Bibin faced multiple psychosocial stressors, including speech difficulties, financial losses in stock trading, a recent breakup, substance use, and academic neglect, leading to a show-cause notice for termination. His strained relationship with his father further compounded his emotional distress. The intervention followed the PSFA framework, focusing on five key areas: safety, calming, efficacy, social connectedness, and hope. The sessions included psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral strategies, relaxation techniques, and social skills training. A structured therapeutic approach addressed Bibin’s maladaptive coping mechanisms, low self-esteem, and cognitive distortions surrounding financial failures and interpersonal relationships. Psychological assessments indicated severe depression, extreme anxiety, and low social connectedness, reinforcing the need for structured intervention. Over six sessions, Bibin developed emotional regulation skills, improved his self-confidence, and re-engaged with academics and social connections. He adopted healthier coping mechanisms, reducing substance use and enhancing resilience. By the final session, Bibin demonstrated improved insight, self-efficacy, and motivation, laying the foundation for sustained psychological well-being. This case highlights the effectiveness of PSFA interventions in addressing acute distress and fostering long-term resilience in high-achieving students under severe stress.
