Role of Personality Traits in Emotional Intelligence of Adolescents

The present study examined the relationship between personality dimensions and emotional intelligence among adolescents. A purposive sample of 400 adolescents (200 males & 200 females) from Haryana, India, were selected for the investigation. Data were collected using the Emotional Intelligence Scale developed by Singh and Narain (2014) and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised-Short Form (EPQR-S) developed by Eysenck, Eysenck, and Barrett (1985). Pearson product-moment correlation and stepwise regression analyses were performed to analyse the data. The findings indicated significant associations between emotional intelligence and personality dimensions. Furthermore, the regression analysis identified extraversion, neuroticism, and psychoticism as significant predictors of emotional intelligence among adolescents. The study highlights the importance of considering personality traits while designing strategies to promote emotional intelligence and overall psychological development among adolescents.
