The Government and Non-Governmental organizations run old age homes for socio-economically poor and destitute in Maharashtra. The objectives of presents study were to understand the differences between gender Gove-run and NGO-run old age homes on psychological constructs, and explore the association between psycho-demographics factors. The sample consisted of 461 male and female elderly from 30 old age home elderly (NGO-R = 231 & Gove-R =230) with age-group of 55 to 89 years (Mean = 72 years, SD = 8.06) across the Maharashtra by using purposive and incidental sampling techniques. The Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ: Sarason et al., 1987), and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12: Goldberg & Hillier, 1998), demographical data sheet used for detail understanding. The 2 × 2 ANOVA showed that residential environmental satisfaction (F (1, 457) = 17.50, p < .01, partial η² = .037) found significantly differ but mental health (F (1, 457) = 1.18, p > .05, partial η² = .003), found non-significant differences among types of old age homes, and no significant differences were found among gender. In correlation, age and duration of stay (DoS) positively correlated (r = .154, p < .01). RES and mental health found inversely correlated (r = .19, p < .01). The findings of the present study will help to create more satisfying residential environments in both types of old age homes which will help elderly to lead towards the better mental health for elderly. The policy-makers and service providers will understand the present old age homes scenario and help them to create positive and psychological healthy environment at old age homes.
