This study aimed to validate the Bharathiar University Resilience Scale-Short Form (BURS-SF), which consists of 10 items, adapted from the 30-item Bharathiar University Resilience Scale (BURS; Annalakshmi, 2009). A convenience sample of 309 adults (150 males & 159 females) between the ages of 19-40 years completed the BURS-SF together with other self-report measures of self-esteem, life satisfaction, depression, anxiety, and stress. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) using a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) framework supported the unidimensionality of the scale, with all items showing moderate to strong loadings and the overall model showing good fit indices (CFI = .95, TLI = .94, NFI = .91, RMSEA = .05, SRMR = .04). The BURS- SF also showed good internal consistency (α = .82) and strong item discrimination (item-total correlations ranged between .40 to .57). The BURS-SF was also supported by convergent validity through its positive correlations with self-esteem and life satisfaction, while divergent validity was indicated by a non-significant relationship with anxiety. Multigroup confirmatory factor analysis further indicated that the factor structure was stable across gender, supporting valid comparisons between males and females. The scale’s brevity combined with its high validity properties contributes to its wide application possibilities, including large scale surveys, clinical assessments, and organisational or community interventions. Cross-validation and longitudinal stability within other cultural settings and translated versions of the scale can be explored in future studies.
