The usage of social media has increased rapidly in recent years and this has brought about addiction. The aim of the current study is to investigate the effect of social media addiction on the mental health of the young adults of Ludhiana. This descriptive and analytical study was conducted by using three instruments, namely the phubbing scale (PS-8), General Health Questionnaire(GHQ), and Social Media Addiction (SMA). The sample considered in this study is 75 (40 male & 35 female) the sample includes people of age (21-35). The data is collected through a convenient survey method. The statistical tools used to analyze this data are descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, regression and t-test. The result of this research indicates that there is a correlation between social media addiction, phubbing, and mental health issues. It is clear that if social media addiction increases, the rate of mental health issues also increases. This study has also shown the significant relationship between gender and mental. Women had lower internal health as compared to men. The excessive use of mobile phones has been associated with cognitive impairment and mental health issues. This study discovers that mental health is directly related to social media addiction and phubbing. Phubbing is the act of ignoring the companion in favor of mobile phones. Phubbing behaviour is a phenomenon of global interest to researchers.
