Adolescence represents a transformative period characterized by significant physical, emotional, cognitive, and social changes that are often influenced by parenting styles. This study reviews the impact of parenting style on adolescent behavior and mental health, drawing from both Indian and global contexts. The review includes literature from 2015 to 2024, focusing on authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, neglectful, and contemporary parenting styles such as positive and attachment parenting. Evidence highlights that authoritative parenting positively influences adolescent self-esteem, academic performance, and mental well-being, while authoritarian and neglectful styles correlate with anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. Cultural factors also influence parenting practices and their effects on adolescents. By analyzing 25 studies, this study emphasizes the importance of adopting balanced parenting approaches to support adolescent development and mitigate behavioral and mental health challenges. The findings offer insights for fostering healthier parent-adolescent relationships and improving outcomes for adolescents through informed parenting practices.
