A staple of the poor for ages, potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) are the most important food crop in the world. For the past three centuries, the nation has been growing potatoes. Potato farming offers rural communities the chance to use surplus labour and family members. In this research, the growth rate and trend of Haryana’s potato production, productivity, and area are investigated. The data on area, production and productivity of last 20 years was collected from various published sources to analyse the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) and annual percentage change in potato production. The results show an upward trend in productivity, production, and area, suggesting that the potato sector is expanding. The study also explores the factors influencing potato production and provides insights into the economic viability of potato farming in Haryana. The results of this research can inform policymakers and stakeholders in developing strategies to support potato farmers and enhance production in the region. To protect potato growers from low prices during periods of glut, the government should take the initiative to construct processing facilities, cold storage facilities, and refrigerated vehicles for transportation in the major potato-producing belts. This will also reduce post-harvest losses and spoilage and increase the nation’s export potential.
