Problematic smartphone usage is common among young people. Problematic Smartphone usage is common among young people in a new era which adversely affects the sleep quality of young adults. From this perspective, the present study dissected the efficacy of the Cognitive Behavioural Motivational Enhancement online Intervention program for reducing problematic smartphone usage and enhancing sleep quality among young adults in Kerala, India, during Covid-19. The study was conducted in three phases, based on the three main elements of Conklin’s (1997) program development model, planning, design and implementation and evaluation. A sequential exploratory design was used as a part of a mixed-method study. Finally, to determine the effectiveness of the CBME intervention program, we utilized the true experimental research design between two independent groups. MANOVA results revealed that the CBME program had a statistically significant impact on young adults’ PSU and sleep quality. The significant value (0.00) of paired t-test indicates that CBME can be recommended as a psychological intervention to reduce PSU and improve sleep quality among participants. Future research should examine the impact of the intervention on other levels of education and working young adults working in different fields. The findings suggest that CBME can be administered to young adults to reduce problematic smartphone usage and enhance sleep quality. Lastly, Online CBME can be further tested on a more extensive base of individuals of different ages and from different nationalities and cultures to maximize its benefits and internal and external validity.
