Individuals are equipped with different coping styles as a result of exposure to different environments and upbringing. Gender differences in coping styles among young adults, especially university/college students in the Indian context are underexplored. Besides, the role of family type and ecological background is yet to be explored. Hence, the present study intended to examine the difference in coping styles across groups: gender, ecology, and family structure. Two hundred and twenty university/college students took part in the study. The result of the research indicated significant differences between genders in one coping style. Males showed a significantly higher tendency of substance use than females. Besides, participants from rural and urban settlements showed significant differences in substance use, in which the participants from rural areas showed a higher score. However, the two family types did not differ significantly in their coping styles.
