The Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act of 1989 holds considerable significance, exerting a notable impact on the religious, social, political, and economic landscape of Nagaland in North-East India. This research aims to understand the perspectives of students, delving into their awareness, concerns, and aspirations regarding this prohibition policy. Despite its well-intentioned inception, the act has now sparked varied opinions within the state. Utilizing the probability sampling method and closed-ended questionnaire for primary data collection, the study gathered responses from 810 students, complemented by interviews with select participants for deeper insights. Results indicate diverse opinions on the act’s impact on liquor consumption, with a majority advocating for amendments. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on alcohol prohibition in Nagaland, providing insights into the views of the younger generation. It emphasizes the need for an inclusive approach to alcohol policy that accommodates the diverse perspectives of the population, including the youth.
