In Bihar the higher educational system is at an exponential growth stage, and it is a challenge for its teachers to be able to guide the students, maintain the standards of academic excellence and engage in research activities at the same time. The role of two less studied psychological resources on three dimensions of teacher performance, namely mentoring performance, academic performance and research performance is examined in this paper. Data was collected on the university teachers working in central universities of Bihar using a descriptive-cum-correlational design using standardized EI and SI inventories and a self-report performance scale. The correlational and multiple-regression analyses show that both EI and SI are significant positive predictors of mentoring, academic, and research performance, and that EI is the stronger predictor for all three types of performance and SI contributes relevant incremental variance, especially to mentoring performance. The findings imply that the inclusion of emotional competency and spiritual competency development in faculty induction programme and faculty continuing development programme at universities in Bihar could be beneficial. Implications, limitations and future research are considered.
