Employees born between 1997 and 2012 are known as Generation Z (Gen Z) and are becoming a dominating group in the quickly changing global workforce. For companies looking to draw in and keep top personnel, it is now essential to comprehend the elements that affect their engagement and retention. To determine the main factors influencing Gen Z employee engagement and retention, this study offers a thorough systematic review of the body of available knowledge. A thorough selection and screening procedure was carried out throughout the main academic databases. To identify recurrent themes, patterns, and gaps, 90 peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2024 were examined. The findings reveal that purpose-driven work, opportunities for growth, inclusive leadership, work-life balance, digital integration and organizational culture are among the most influential factors in engaging and retaining Gen Z employees. This review not only synthesizes current knowledge but also provides actionable insights for HR practitioners and business leaders seeking to adapt their strategies to better align with the expectations of the Gen Z workforce. Recommendations for future research and practical implications are also discussed.
