Blockchain technology is a transformative innovation with potential applications across various sectors, including education. In South Africa, a nation grappling with historical inequalities and contemporary challenges, this technology could play a pivotal role in promoting quality education for sustainable development. This article examines blockchain technology within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, explores its relevance to addressing systemic issues in South Africa’s education system, and evaluates its potential to foster equity, efficiency, and transparency. Challenges such as digital infrastructure deficits, limited awareness, and resistance to change are discussed alongside recommendations for leveraging blockchain to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) 4 Quality Education for All. This paper explores how blockchain technology can be utilized to achieve quality education in South Africa. By addressing factors influencing blockchain adoption and its implications for sustainable development, this study underscores its transformative potential. The study employed the qualitative method and conducted a critical analysis of the secondary data that was gathered.
