The present study examined what influence gender, as well as family types, had on college students’ compassion and mental health. A 2 (gender) x 2 (family types) factorial design was employed for the study. Data were collected through a random sampling method from 345 undergraduate college students in the state of Odisha. The findings indicated that gender and family types had a significant influence on students’ compassion, whereas only family types had a significant influence on their mental health. The interaction effect of gender and family types was not found to be significant in influencing compassion, as well as the mental health of the students. Moreover, a direct positive relationship between compassion and mental health was indicated in the findings. The implications of the results are discussed in terms of the current cultural context.
