Despite the decriminalisation of homosexuality in India, LGB individuals continue to experience social exclusion, prejudice and stigma. These adverse experiences contribute to identity invalidation and stress, making it difficult for them to seek support and attain self-acceptance. Therefore, the present study examines the role of parental support in enhancing self-acceptance of sexuality among LGB individuals. It also compares the older and younger LGBs on these variables. A total of 92 self-identified LGB individuals between the ages of 16 to 32 who had come out to their parents, participated in the study as the sample. Standardised measures of parental support and self-acceptance of sexuality were administered to the participants. Findings reveal that parental support was positively related to self-acceptance, with significant differences between younger and older groups. The result highlights the crucial role of parental support in the early stages of coming out. It helps individuals feel more accepted and comfortable with their identity. These insights can have important implications for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and educators, suggesting the need for effective interventions aimed at enhancing parental support to promote the self-acceptance and well-being of LGB individuals.
