The present study examined the predictive role of Person-Organisation Fit (P-O Fit) on Counterproductive Work Behaviour directed at individuals (CWB-I) and organisations (CWBO). A purposive sample of 400 employees from the banking and insurance sectors in the Solan and Shimla districts of Himachal Pradesh, India, was used in the present study. The data were collected using standardised scales – General Environment Fit Scale (GEFS; Beasley, Jason & Miller, 2012) and the Counterproductive Work Behaviour Checklist (CWB-C; Spector et al., 2006). Regression analysis revealed that in the males’ sample, P-O Fit has contributed (-) 55% of the variance in CWB-O and (-) 32% in CWB-I. Among females, it explained (-) 60% of the variance in CWB-O and (-) 59% in CWB-I. In the public sector, P-O Fit predicted (-) 32% of the variance in CWB-O and (-) 21% in CWB-I. Lastly, in the private sector, it explained (-) 67% of the variance in CWBO and (-) 54% in CWB-I. Moreover, Unique Role and Demand Abilities emerged as common negative predictors across genders and sectors.
