The objective of this study was to study the relationship between mental health and life satisfaction among servicemen and businessmen. Work is an integral part of our lives. We become what we do and our choice of work identifies us. The work or kind of job we pursue is a crucial deciding factor in determining our mental peace and happiness. Work/ job is also a very prominent source of contentment in our lives. If our work or job gives us satisfaction we will be satisfied with our lives. In India, the majority of the population pursue jobs either in the government sector or the private sector. The servicemen and businessmen are crucial contributors to the GDP. The need of the hour is to understand employee attitudes toward their upliftment in changing environmental conditions, so the researcher intends to understand the pattern and structure of life satisfaction and mental health of these servicemen and businessmen. The sample consists of 15 servicemen and 15 businessmen of middle-class background who were chosen from Lucknow. The Mental Health Scale (MHS) by Sharma (1996) and the Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS-AS) by Alam et al. (1971) were used. The findings suggest that there is a significant difference between servicemen and businessmen in mental health and life satisfaction. The study implies more rigorous and different approaches in policy-making for people working in sectors of business and service.
