Giftedness refers to exceptional intellectual, creative or academic abilities that distinguish an individual from their peers. Gifted children often demonstrate high potential in one or more domains, such as academics, the arts, leadership or problem solving. Giftedness is a multidimensional concept, encompassing exceptional potential or performance across intellectual, creative, socio-emotional or psychomotor domains. It requires early identification and specialized education to fully realize an individual’s potential. The present study is an attempt to outline the phenomenon of giftedness in children in its various manifestations and to challenge limited definitions of giftedness, as well as to highlight the need for a more concerned programme of gifted education in India. The NEP emphasizes “Identification of Talent” and “Holistic Development” Implementing gifted education programs in India requires a systemic overhaul, aligning with the country’s long-term developmental goals. By fostering talent at an early age, India can harness its demographic potential and cultivate leaders, innovators, and creative thinkers who contribute meaningfully to society. India’s futures in gifted education depend on strategic investments in policies, infrastructure, and capacity-building. Recognizing and nurturing giftedness is not just an educational necessity but also a socio-economic imperative in a globalized world.
