Animated content is widely used for children’s entertainment and education which helps in shaping their behaviour, attitudes, and learning processes. This paper explores the beginning of animated media / cartoons, techniques of animation, and the influence of animated media on child development focusing on cognitive including language development, and social and emotional development. This review paper focuses on language acquisition, executive function, abstract thinking, attention and concentration and problem-solving skills under cognitive development. It also addresses the influence of animated media / cartoon on social development, investigating interpersonal skills, perspective-taking and moral development. Emotional development is analysed by understanding positive and negative emotions. Although there are some advantages to animated media, such as encouraging pro-social conduct and improving educational results, there are also worries about drawbacks, such as violence and an over dependence on screen time. The study summarises research on cartoons’ effects on children’s development and emphasises the ramifications for parents, and teachers aiming to foster healthier developmental outcomes in children.
