Body image is the perception of one’s body and associated beliefs, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Body image concerns can arise due to societal pressure, culture, peer pressure, weight, skin colour, or the influence of media and other factors which are discussed in detail in this paper. A negative body image is an issue of concern because it can further lead to severe physical or mental health problems. Body image concerns are increasing day to day and the present paper is an attempt to understand the different factors which are influencing the development of body dissatisfaction. This paper describes the factors which affect the body image of people belonging to different age groups and gender. It is important to know these influencing factors as it provides a chance to understand how body dissatisfaction has developed and also gives an opportunity to be compassionate towards one body and recover from a negative body image. This paper is an attempt to delineate the various factors which can affect in the formation of a healthy body image.
