Digital revolution across the globe has impacted various sections of society and endorsing technology has become pertinent in modern times. Research indicates that technology affects the elderly in several ways such as promoting improved relationship-building with others, decreased loneliness and reduced social isolation, online extension of relationships through digital and virtual forums and bridging distances. To study the recent trends in India and the world, secondary research was carried. The research articles indexed in Google Scholar were analysed in-depth. The articles from 2000 onwards were considered. The template method was used to undertake the qualitative analysis. Most of the studies included were cross-sectional studies. Sampling was mostly convenient sampling from a single or two to three institutes. Thus, establishing causality and the ability to extrapolate to the general population was limited, implying more detailed research is required. Still, some conclusions could be drawn. Findings indicate the presence of some adoption barriers affecting acceptance of technology among the elderly, although there is a willingness to learn. Post adoption there are several benefits experienced like social connectivity or health-related benefits or performing everyday tasks, but also some concerns especially related to security. Future research on the role of gender differences within the elderly and its impact on technology may need to be looked at. Factors affecting adoption barriers need further evaluation. Also, long-term studies that can assess the impact on quality of life are needed.
