Psychological distress and social interaction anxiety (SIA) are prevalent mental health challenges that affect the youth globally. With the rapid evolution of technology, young people are constantly navigating rapid changes across all facets of life, which can induce stress and anxiety. However, undue prolonged stress compounded by social isolation may exacerbate these conditions, potentially leading to the development of a pathological mental state. SIA, characterized by avoidance behaviors and heightened self-consciousness, presents unique challenges, especially when coupled with psychological distress complicating treatment strategies. Understanding the prevalence, interrelationships, and impact of psychological distress and SIA is crucial in India, given its substantial youth population, to promote overall well-being. This study reviews current literature to examine the prevalence, correlates, and impact on individuals and society. It aims to deepen insights into the psychological impact of the lack of social interactions and assess the vulnerability to persistent distress across diverse populations. Improving the resources and services aimed at supporting the youth will better equip them to adapt to their current scenario and contemporary challenges effectively.
