Still, a very important and fundamental component of Punjabi culture is the phulkari work. The preservation of traditional handicrafts is of utmost importance. To preserve this craft, embroideries must be recreated in current-looking designs using traditional techniques. Not just among Punjabis but people all around India and the world, the phulkari dupatta continues to enjoy enormous popularity. It has progressed from being a purely domestic art form to earning a spot in the couture collections of global designers! Interest in Indian fashion only suggests that Phulkari embroidery is about to see better times. The Jat People of Central Asia brought phulkari to India, but the designs were passed down orally rather than being recorded in books. This custom was more closely related to Hindus and Muslims than to Sikhs. Phulkari is originally mentioned in the well-known Punjabi folktale Heera Ranjha. Every lady had a unique way of expressing herself, and the embroidery was only a mirror of her life.
