The rapid development of technology and the widespread availability of the Internet have revolutionized the way people interact, work, and entertain themselves. In recent years, the popularity of online gaming has surged, providing individuals with an immersive and engaging experience. During COVID-19, indoor activities increased and as a result, outdoor activities declined which influenced interpersonal relationships dramatically. While gaming can be a source of entertainment and socialization, excessive and uncontrolled gaming habits have raised concerns about a phenomenon known as Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) has emerged as a growing concern in the digital age, with profound implications for individuals and society. The current review aims to identify the prevalence of internet gaming disorder and review the literature and most relevant problems in the Indian context. Several studies have been reviewed in the recent past. This article focuses on the emerging issue of IGD in the Indian context, exploring its impact on individuals. The article emphasizes the need for awareness, education, and intervention strategies to address IGD effectively. By fostering responsible gaming habits, providing mental health support, and regulating the gaming industry, individuals and society can navigate the challenges posed by IGD and promote a healthier and balanced approach to internet gaming.
